This is the HOMECOMING WEEK at Strasburg School District 31J, Monday, August 7, 2026 through Sunday, September 13, 2026.

 

Dear Strasburg 31J Families,

Happy Friday!

As we head into the holiday weekend, we hope you have plenty to look forward to—including quality time with family and friends, an extra day to relax, and perhaps a delicious barbecue. Most exciting of all, when we return, we will be kicking off Homecoming Week!

Homecoming is always a special time in Strasburg. We hope you will join us for a game or two next week as we honor our Indian alumni and celebrate the accomplishments and spirit of our current student body. We look forward to seeing our community come together in support of our students and schools.

Speaking of celebrations, we are thrilled to give a huge shout-out to our very own SHS science teacher, Merci Ames, who has been named one of the Top 8 finalists for the 2027 Colorado Teacher of the Year! The winner will be announced in early October, and we will be cheering her on every step of the way. Congratulations, Mrs. Ames—we are so proud of you!

We hope everyone enjoys a safe, restful, and memorable holiday weekend. We look forward to welcoming you back for an exciting Homecoming Week!

It is hard to believe we are already a month into the school year! It has been wonderful seeing our students settle into their routines, build relationships, and bring so much energy to our school each day. September will be a busy and exciting month at SES, beginning with our Kindergarten House Reveal Party on September 4, followed by our school fundraiser from September 8–22. We will also have Picture Day on September 18 and Field Day for grades 1–5 on September 25. Thank you to our families for the continued support and partnership you have shown as we have kicked off another great year together. We are excited to keep building on a strong start and look forward to all that is ahead for our students and our SES community!

We hope you’ve had a wonderful week. Please take a few moments to review the district updates and friendly reminders below.

Colorado Rockies Game:  Our elementary and middle school choirs will sing the National Anthem at the Colorado Rockies game on Friday, September 4. Families and community members interested in attending can purchase discounted tickets using the information provided on attachment. We hope to see you there!  Rockies Flier.png 

Perry Weather:  Have you heard an outdoor alarm recently? Chances are, it wasn’t the town’s tornado siren—it was our very own Perry Weather station alerting us to potentially dangerous conditions, including lightning.

This system is an excellent safety feature that helps us protect students when they are outside during recess, practices or games. It may even help us make more informed snow-day decisions—although we’ll see how smoothly that part works out for us!

District Accountability Committee (DAC) :  Our first DAC meeting of the year is scheduled for Thursday, September 10, at 4:45 p.m. in the Central Services Building.  We’re excited to welcome additional community members to the team. If you’re interested in participating and haven’t already reached out, please send me a quick email to be added to the meeting invitation.  If you’ve ever considered running for the school board, serving on the DAC is a wonderful—and recommended—first step! The DAC’s responsibilities include:

• Recommending district priorities for the use of school district funds

• Submitting recommendations to the local school board regarding the district’s Performance, Improvement, Priority Improvement, or Turnaround plans, as applicable

• Working annually with the school board to identify key areas, issues, and budget topics for review and recommendation

• Providing input to principals regarding assessment tools related to student academic growth and teacher evaluations

• Publicizing opportunities for parents and community members to serve on the DAC

• Helping implement the district’s parent engagement policy

• Supporting school efforts to increase parent involvement, including participation in students’ READ plans and Career and Academic Plans, as well as efforts to address habitual truancy

Community Event Opportunities:

• The Strasburg Arts Council Sock Hop—Tonight!  Join us at the elementary school tonight from 5-7pm for the annual Sock Hop!  This is an excellent way to support the arts within Strasburg!
• Football Home Opener—Tonight!  Come cheer on the Strasburg Indians at Winter Field at 7:00 p.m. as we take on Wiggins in the season opener. It promises to be a fun and exciting evening—go Indians!
